Q. How do we know when we are at a geo gate? Are there little flags on the ground?
A. The geo gates are not marked on the ground. They are features, i.e. Peaks, stones, trig points or gates. The geo gates were set by the W3W in the route info. This is a 3m square. Smaller than a OS 8 fig GR. The tracker has a 10m tolerance. It just needs a short time to communicate with the satellite and server.
Q. How big or heavy is the baton?
A. The 'Baton' is a GEO tracker that's small and fits in the palm of a hand. It is in a water proof pouch. Once handed to your team at the start, nothing needs to be done with it except to pass it between your team. It can be clipped to a vest or in a pocket, but it needs to be on the outside pocket to enable a good signal.
Q. Can our runners run in pairs?
A. Yes. Once you start, any or all of your runners can run with the 'baton' at any time your tactics require. You can have support runners for safety, BUT the baton can only be carried by a registered team runner with an wristband. If a non registered runner is caught with the baton, your team will be disqualified.
Q. What are the wrist bands for?
A. The wrist bands provide many purposes. From a safety point it is easier for marshals, race HQ and team Captains to communicate and monitor individual runners on the mountain. Further more they ensure that only team members are used to carry the baton. They must be worn on the wrist at ALL times.
Q. What happens if a runner is found not wearing a wrist band?
A. If a runner is found carrying the baton and not wearing a wristband by a roaming marshal, they will be stopped and reported to race HQ. If they have the wristband but forgot to put it on there will be a time penalty. No wristband at at all, will be a team disqualification.
