The Concept:
A team event for clubs to enter teams between 5 (min) and 10 (max) runners.Â
A 'baton' (tracker) has to be carried over the Black Mountains. Approx. 50km
The final distance may vary depending on the 'actual' route choice and navigation of each team.
Once started the runners pass the baton between their team on their planned route. The 'handovers' can happen at any point along the way.
The Geo gateways are not checkpoints and can be visited in the any order you decide.
There are no set legs or specified distances set for each runner.
The team captain decides who runs and how far, as long as the baton passes through the geo-gateways with a registered team runner. The team captain does not have to be a team runner.
The baton can be passed between any team runners as many times as they wish. It's up to the team to decide the tactics, best route and handovers.
The start and GPS gateways are not disclosed until 14 days prior to the start date. That's where your brain comes into play. Choosing your preferred route, deciding who is best suited to running uphill's, downhills and who's capable of navigating the tricky bits. Then working out how to get everyone in place to ensure a smooth quick performance.
To keep the event fresh and challenging the route is change each year.

How did it go?
Well this video is a playback of the teams chosen routes. It's quite interesting to watch the varied routes as they progress. There was a 6km difference between the 1st and last team. The first team coming in at 5hrs 3mins and the last 5hrs later.
